Buffalo Traffic Violations Agency

The Buffalo Traffic Violations Agency assists the Buffalo City Court in the disposition and administration of certain traffic infractions.  The agency operates under the direction and control of the Mayor.

The Buffalo Traffic Violations Agency handles over 35,000 tickets and disposes of more than 28,000 cases annually.

If you were issued a Uniform Traffic Ticket in the City of Buffalo, it is encouraged that you plead by mail.

Beginning July 1, 2015, the City of Buffalo Traffic Violations Agency has been adjudicating traffic infractions issued in violation is the New York State Vehicle & Traffic Law. The agency handles most infractions that occur within the City of Buffalo. In specific instances, some traffic infractions are handled in Buffalo City Court.

Prior to the creation of the agency, all moving violations were adjudicated through the Department of Motor Vehicles Traffic Violations Bureau.

The Buffalo Traffic Violations Agency was created through collaborative efforts of the city and state law makers. The goal of the Buffalo Traffic Violations Agency is to enhance public safety through just enforcement of the Vehicle and Traffic Law.

The Buffalo Traffic Violations Agency is authorized under New York State General Municipal Law Article 14-B, Section 370, and established in the Buffalo City Charter under Section C-6-24.
