The loss of these two men is painful. In a time when heroism is equated with the ability to catch a football or swing a bat we tend to forget that true heroes are around our cities and towns doing the work of firefighters. In Buffalo, where the fire department is as tough as the city itself, the loss of McCarthy and Croom will be felt for some time.
