Office of New Americans

MISSION

The Office of New Americans aims to ensure that Buffalo remains a welcoming city and a preferred resettlement site in the U.S.  The Office works to create economic & academic opportunities within the City’s incumbent population and in its growing immigrant and refugee communities.  Its mission is to promote access to City services, area resources and to implement policies that facilitate successful integration of newcomers into the civic, economic, and cultural life of Buffalo.

HISTORY

The City of Buffalo Office of New Americans was launched by Mayor Byron W. Brown in 2015 and now celebrates Immigrant Heritage Month annually.

CITY OF BUFFALO NEW AMERICANS STUDY
In February of 2016, the City published its New Americans Study, a study commissioned to analyze Buffalo’s immigrant and refugee communities; outline current and needed services; and produce recommendations on how to best improve or initiate new and existing services.
