Wellness Program

Executive Director
Phil Haberstro

Description of Services

The City of Buffalo Wellness Program, facilitated by the non-profit Wellness Institute of Greater Buffalo, features the global HEALTHY COMMUNITY model (see www.CreatingHealthyCommunities.org) to guide a comprehensive community empowerment approach to addressing the Human, Social, Environmental and Economic determinants of wellness.  Utilizing inclusivity (all sectors, Public, Private, Non-Profit and Civic) as an essential tool, the City Wellness program creatively complements and strategically supports the City's Master Plan, Good Neighbors Planning Alliances, schools and block clubs.  In addition to providing resources and activities for City residents and organizations that support healthy life styles there are social capital building initiatives addressing Civic health (Buffalo Niagara All America City), the Environment (Green Options Buffalo) and the Economy (advocacy for the field of health promotion as a job creating and health enhancing industry in the Buffalo Niagara region).
