SanFilippo Audit On Impact Team Leads To Improved Oversight

Buffalo City Comptroller Andy SanFilippo announced today that tighter controls and improved accountability and oversight on personnel and equipment have been implemented by Mayor Brown and the Division of Citizen Services on the Mayor’s Impact Team in response to an audit performed by his office.

“I’m pleased that the administration has responded in such a positive way to our recommendations,” said Comptroller SanFilippo.  “My audit, conducted in response to the request of the Common Council, found employee time sheet irregularities, lax controls on vehicles and equipment, and shortcomings in some uses of the Fuelmaster system.  The administration has already begun to implement our recommendations to address the concerns that we have identified.”

The Common Council requested Comptroller SanFilippo to conduct an audit of the Mayor’s Impact Team after a television crew from Ch. 7 aired a report that seemed to show members of the Impact Team working on private property.  An investigation by the administration led to the suspension of three employees.“It is my hope through the work of my Audit Division to help identify waste, inefficiency, or other problems that could impact on the level of service or the cost of service to the public,” said Comptroller SanFilippo.  “In this case, we found problem areas and lax controls, identified them, and the administration has responded.  This is the kind of cooperation that will best serve our constituency, the citizens of Buffalo.”
