Christopher P. Scanlon, the son of John and Paula, was born and raised in South Buffalo with his six siblings. Passionate about the neighborhood he was raised in, Chris still resides there with his wife Katie and son Thomas.

Scanlon has served on the Buffalo Common Council as the representative for the South District since May of 2012. He is currently the President Pro Tempore, Chairman of the Common Council’s Budget, and Transportation Committees and a member of the Community Development and Education Committees.

During his tenure, Chris has worked hard to combat vacant housing issues, absentee landlords, and partnering with the Buffalo Police Department, to assist responsible landlords with the eviction process of troublesome tenants. He also works diligently to protect taxpayer dollars by scrutinizing all contracts the city has with outside providers, holding companies and agencies accountable who fail to perform. Prioritizing the safety and well-being of the residents of Buffalo above all else, Chris has continuously fought to ensure our police and fire departments are properly trained, staffed, and equipped and that our emergency service provider is performing at a satisfactory rate.

Scanlon works closely with block clubs and community groups to tackle quality of life issues in South Buffalo, to improve upon youth and senior services, and to promote local businesses by spearheading events such as Shop South Buffalo and The South Buffalo Farmers Market. All of these efforts are aimed at ensuring that South Buffalo is a great place to live, raise a family, and do business.

Councilmember Scanlon has been recognized for his hard-work and leadership by the McKinley Parkway Homeowners Association, the Hillery Scholarship Foundation, and the Knights of Equity – Daughters of Erin Court 5.
