BUFFALO—The "Guitars for Hope" campaign kicks off today in Buffalo and Mayor Byron Brown welcomed a hand-painted artwork in the shape of a guitar entitled "Electric Avenue" by local artist Carolyn McNamara. "This is a wonderful way to show pride in Buffalo and to raise money for so many worthwhile causes," said Mayor Brown. "We are honored to have the guitars in the community and to once again host the Buffalo-Niagara Guitar Festival this summer. I encourage everyone to come to the city to see these amazing works of art." All of the guitars were hand painted by the celebrity artists. Guest artists include: Buffalo Bills Hall-of-Fame Quarterback Jim Kelly, rock stars Jon Bon Jovi and Meat Loaf, country singer Lee Ann Womack, Jesse L. Martin of Law and Order, Tim Russert of NBC News, Mark Steines of Entertainment Tonight, Robby Takac of the Goo Goo Dolls, JoAnn Falletta of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, NASCAR artist Sam Bass, Rik Emmett formerly of the band Triumph, and rock singer Queen V. Over 60 fiberglass 6-foot guitars will be auctioned on-line in May and at a live VIP Charity auction on July 14th. All proceeds benefit the Kelly for Kids Foundation, Hunter's Hope and the WNED Buffalo-Niagara Guitar Festival. For more information call (716) 204-1212 |
