Collaborative Police Effort Led to Apprehension of Suspects

BUFFALO - Mayor Byron W. Brown and Police Commissioner H. McCarthy Gipson today announced the arrest of two Buffalo men in connection with the stolen parking meters in the City of Buffalo.  A total of 142 meters were stolen.  Police say drugs were the motive.

Arrested and charged in the case are 46 year old George Robinson and 30 year old Terrence Miller, both of 18 Camp Street.   Police found missing meters in the house as well as tools used to open the meters.  Both are being charged with felony criminal mischief, grand larceny and possession of burglary tools.  The charges could increase as the full scope of crime is revealed.

"Thanks to the hard work of the Buffalo Police, this case has been solved," said Mayor Brown.  "I am thrilled this case has been solved.  The missing parking meters were not only an inconvenience to drivers, but it was also costing the city money. "

Officers and detectives, led by Detective Sergeant Thomas Donovan, received a tip last night that led them to 18 Camp Street this morning. There, they found 30-40 meters and the tools that were used to open them.  Both men confessed to the crimes.

"Thanks to the collaborative effort of the B and C District officers and detectives and Division of Parking Enforcement personnel, we now have the suspects in custody," said Police Commissioner Gipson.

Police also found meters dumped in various locations near 18 Camp Street, in addition to the 30-40 meters in the house.  Police have yet to make a determination as to how much money was actually stolen.  The investigation continues.

"With these arrests, we now expect that the District Attorney will prosecute these individuals to the fullest extent of the law," said Mayor Brown.
