Joins five U.S. Mayors in congratulating Irish and British Prime Ministers for their successful role in forming new, shared government

BUFFALO – Mayor Byron W. Brown joined Mayors from five other U.S. cities in praising Irish Republic Prime Minister Bertie Ahern and Great Britain Prime Minister Tony Blair for their role in the Northern Ireland peace process and the successful creation of shared government between Catholic and Protestant political organizations.

Joining the Mayors of New York City, Chicago, Boston, San Francisco and Denver (see attached letter), Mayor Brown shared in the Mayors’ in stating that, “Northern Ireland is now set firmly on a course of peace and democracy.”

Mayor Brown added, “The City of Buffalo has a proud Irish history dating back to the 19th Century.  For generations, Irish Americans in Buffalo have made significantly positive contributions to the City’s growth and prosperity, as well as playing a role in the expansion and development of the United States.  Now, their descendents are witnessing one of the most historic and encouraging events in the centuries old history of Ireland.”
