Brown today announced a first round bet with City of Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter for the Sabres–Flyers series. They agreed that the losing city’s mayor will wear the winning team’s hat and will volunteer in their respective city while participating in a community service project. “I want to thank Mayor Nutter for accepting this challenge and his commitment to serve the citizens of Philadelphia,” said Mayor Brown. “I anticipate a great series between the Sabres and Flyers and I believe it will be the beginning of a long and successful playoff run for our Sabres. I proudly look forward to serving our seniors wearing a Sabres hat.” If the Buffalo Sabres win the series, Mayor Brown will participate in the city’s Salvation Army program by serving seniors lunches, while wearing a Sabres hat. If the Flyers win the series, he will participate with the Salvation Army and wear a Flyers hat. “I may not agree with Mayor Brown regarding who to root for in hockey, but we are both committed to promoting community service in our cities. During this summer, Philadelphia will participate in President Obama’s Let’s Read. Let’s Move. initiative that addresses two challenges all parents face during the summer: keeping their children’s bodies and minds active. I’m looking forward to wearing my Flyers hat and promoting physical activity this summer,” said Mayor Nutter. Mayor Brown also announced that he will be presenting two tickets to a City of Buffalo employee, courtesy of the Pegula family, for Game 3 of the series between the Sabres and Flyers at HSBC Arena on Monday, April 18. The winning employee’s name will be chosen tomorrow afternoon, Friday April 15, in the lobby of City Hall. |
