Citywide collection begins November 12, 2012 November 5, 2012 - Today, Mayor Byron Brown and Department of Public Works Commissioner Steven Stepniak announced that, effective November 12, 2012 – November 16, 2012, Buffalo DPW crews will begin picking up bagged leaves as part of the city’s seasonal recycling program to remove leaves and yard debris from the City of Buffalo. To participate in this collection, city residents are asked to place their leaves in clear plastic or recyclable bags, and leave them out on their curb before their scheduled garbage pickup. By bagging leaves in this manner, collection costs are kept at a minimum; leaves should not be placed in garbage totes. Also, residents should be advised that raking leaves into city streets is illegal and punishable by fine. Although they are scheduled on the same days, leaves will be picked up separately from garbage, so city residents should not be concerned if they are left behind after garbage removal. As an alternative to this pickup, the City opened three drop-off locations on November 1st where residents can bring their unwanted leaves and lawn debris. The three sites are:
These drop-off sites will be open from 8:00 am – 4:00pm, Monday through Saturday, November 17th. After their collection, all leaves will be brought to Lardon Construction, Inc. a registered composting facility. If anyone has any questions or needs further information, please call 311. |
