MAYOR BROWN ATTENDS FIRST FIRE STATION OPEN HOUSE OF THE YEAR IN RECOGNITION OF NATIONAL FIRE PREVENTION MONTH October 16, 2012– Last night, Mayor Byron Brown attended the first of five open houses to be held in October at firehouses in Buffalo. It was held at Engine 34 on Main and Mercer. Mayor Brown was joined by more than 160 children and their families as part of National Fire Prevention month celebrations. Free smoke detectors and free batteries for smoke detectors were distributed. The remaining events are also designed to educate children and families about fire safety and invite residents to get a behind-the-scenes view of the job of a firefighter. “The safety of our residents and families is our highest priority," said Mayor Brown. "This month, I encourage residents to visit an open house where they will receive important information on preventing home fires as well as receive free smoke detectors and batteries. We all know that the best way to prevent injury and property loss due to a fire is to be prepared.” Residents are invited to attend the remaining four Fire Prevention and Safety Open Houses in Buffalo:
Fire officials, firefighters and other experts will be on-hand during the Open Houses to meet and greet residents, give them tours of the firehouse, and provide fire safety and prevention tips. Mayor Brown also encouraged city residents to adopt the life-saving habit of replacing the batteries in their smoke detectors when they turn the clocks back on November 4, 2012.
