City allocation of $400,000 in capital funds enables the start of construction on a $2.5 million public-private plan to install a new synthetic turf field at Mulroy Park November 15, 2012-BUFFALO– City of Buffalo children and families will soon have a new, state-of-the-art multi-purpose athletic field. Today, Mayor Byron Brown, joined by Deputy Commissioner of Parks Andrew Rabb, State Assemblyman Michael Kearns, and South District Councilman Christopher Scanlon, announced a $400,000 investment via capital funds for Pierce Field at Mulroy Park, enabling construction to begin on the future site of a new, modern synthetic turf field in South Buffalo. The $2.5 million public-private plan also calls for a multi-purpose recreation and community facility featuring football and health and wellness programs. “It is important to continue to revitalize playing fields throughout the City of Buffalo as a way to help our children stay healthy and active,” said Mayor Brown. “The allocation of $400,000 in capital funds will allow the construction of Pierce Field at Mulroy Park to begin, resulting in a new synthetic turf field. This field, one element of a $2.5 million plan, will not only bring life back to this park, but have a direct impact on South Buffalo families, giving young athletes a safe and modern place to play.” South District Councilman Scanlon stated, "Pierce Field at Mulroy Park is a tremendous addition to the recreational facilities of South Buffalo, a community with such a deep athletic tradition. We now have a state of the art complex for the athletes of our community to utilize. I want to thank Mayor Brown, The Buffalo Legacy Project and everyone else who played a part in this project coming to fruition.” |
