City of Buffalo Parking Meters

Public Statement
Mayor Byron W. Brown
September 20, 2006

Due to the theft and damage of City of Buffalo parking meters, there are several locations throughout the city where paid parking meters are currently gone.

Until those stolen or damaged parking meters are replaced, the following guidelines should be abided by anyone parking at a location where a parking meter has been stolen or damaged:

The governing parking ordinance, as indicated by posted signs, will continue to prevail at all parking meter locations.
A vehicle parked at such a location will have its tire electronically “chalked” by a parking enforcement employee.
If the vehicle remains at the location beyond two-hours from the time its tire was “chalked,” it will be subject to a parking violation ticket.
Parking enforcement personnel will closely monitor these locations until the parking meters are re-installed.

An investigation is underway to apprehend those responsible for these thefts and acts of vandalism. Whoever is responsible will be caught and will be prosecuted for the felony offenses they have committed.
