Upon arriving in Niagara Square, Mayor Brown led a ceremony commemorating the City of Buffalo’s 175th anniversary and the 75th anniversary of the dedication of City Hall, the city’s art deco masterpiece that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. “Our city’s history is extensive and filled with great accomplishment,” said Mayor Brown. “From its humble frontier beginnings through the arrival of the Erie Canal, unprecedented growth and industrial prominence, the City of Buffalo has always played an important part in our region’s, state’s and nation’s history. We come here today to celebrate that past, honor all that came before us and to look a future of continued growth, new opportunities and prosperity for all of our residents.” Mayor Brown announced the winners of the a contest launched in April 2007 for school students in grades 1 through 12 throughout Buffalo that was designed to help celebrate the City of Buffalo’s 175th birthday.
