Payment of Outstanding Property Taxes, Sewer Rent Fees and/or User Fees Extended to Thursday, February 14, 2008

Mayor Byron W. Brown today announced an extension of the deadline to pay any outstanding balance of real property taxes, sewer rent fees and /or user fees to avoid being placed on the In Rem 42 foreclosure list.

“We wanted to provide extra time for individuals who have not made these payments and thereby avoid having their properties placed on the In Rem foreclosure list,” said Mayor Brown.

The deadline to file is being extended to 4:30pm, the close of business, on Thursday February 14, 2008.  This extension will allow additional time for affected property owners to pay their arrears in property tax, sewer rent and/or user fees, and not be charged a mandatory $442 foreclosure list fee.

This extension will also enable property owners who had previously attempted to pay their arrears in taxes and or fees, but had missed the earlier payment deadline.

These property owners are encouraged to contact the Department of Assessment and Taxation at 851-5733 immediately if they wish to pay their arrears on or before February 14, 2008.
