March 2008 > Mayor Brown Welcomes Governor Paterson To Buffalo Mayor Brown Welcomes Governor Paterson To BuffaloSource/Contact Governor’s First Official Visit Includes Private Meeting with Mayor Brown and Congressman Higgins Mayor Byron W. Brown yesterday joined Congressman Brian Higgins, Assemblywoman Crystal Peoples and Assemblyman Mark Schroeder in welcoming Governor David A. Paterson to Buffalo during the Governor’s first official visit to the city. “Governor Paterson has assumed the position as our state’s top elected official at a time of great transition and change, particularly in our nation’s and state’s economies,” Mayor Brown said. “Congressman Higgins and I welcomed the opportunity to meet privately with the Governor to discuss the federal and state issues that are affecting the lives of our residents and I am confident Governor Paterson will do everything within his power to maintain the programs and initiatives, such as Restore New York, that will continue to support Buffalo’s economic revival.” The Governor began his day in Buffalo by traveling to the future home of the Empire State Development Corporation in Buffalo’s Cobblestone District. Mayor Brown greeted the Governor at the future state agency’s headquarters and then introduced the Governor at a press conference that highlighted ESDC’s future home, as well as the announcement that Tops Markets was returning its corporate headquarters to the Buffalo area from Pennsylvania. The Governor then traveled to City Hall for his private meeting with the Mayor and Congressman Higgins. “We were able to have a substantive and frank discussion on a wide range of issues,” said Mayor Brown. “Having served with the Governor in the New York State Senate for five years, we are well-acquainted with one another and I look forward to working with the Governor on programs and policies that will benefit the residents of Buffalo and Western New York. And with such a great partner as Congressman Higgins in our federal delegation, along with all of Buffalo’s state and federal representatives, I believe that we be able to continue to find the necessary support to maintain the progress we have established over the past two years of my Administration.”
