Arrest of BMHA Employee

Public Statement
Mayor Byron W. Brown
June 12, 2008

I think the arrest of this 20-year Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority (BMHA) employee speaks very powerfully that this type of behavior cannot be tolerated where people working in places of the public trust are breaking the law.

I applaud the FBI and other agencies that were involved in this investigation.

My Administration has asked the BMHA to cooperate fully with the authorities.

According to state law, my Administration has appointed three of the seven Commissioners of the BMHA (of the remaining four Commissioner positions, one is vacant, one is a carry over from the previous Mayoral Administration and two are elected by BMHA tenants). The BMHA Commissioners and their appointed senior staff conduct all personnel matters independently.

NOTE: All media inquiries should be directed to Paul Wolf, General Counsel of the BMHA (855-6711, work or 435-4976, cell).
