Waterfront Corridor Initiative

Waterfront

The Buffalo Waterfront Corridor Initiative is …

… an action program of the City of Buffalo intended to organize collaborative work for change on our waterfront right now. Its purpose is to help implement projects that will:

  • promote access to our waterfront,
  • revitalize waterfront neighborhoods,
  • build economic strength through appropriate use of our waterfront assets,
  • protect and repair the health of water, land and wildlife,
  • create a magnificent International Waterfront Gateway, and
  • improve our waterfront transportation corridor for the sake of both waterfront and transportation.

The Buffalo Waterfront Corridor Initiative has…

  • reviewed more than 20 years of waterfront planning,
  • created a comprehensive inventory of waterfront sites and projects
  • hosted a major waterfront conference in 2002
  • organized a public discussion of waterfront priorities in May, 2003

The Buffalo Waterfront Corridor Initiative will…

  • facilitate the setting of clear public priorities for waterfront projects,
  • coordinate with public agencies and private interests to get priority projects done,
  • create design guidelines for four (4) key waterfront gateway nodes,
  • develop detailed proposals for two of those areas,
  • produce a "strategic plan for waterfront corridor transportation improvements,"
  • and, conduct public education, outreach and consultation on an ongoing basis.
