Mayor Brown Announces New Fire Department Appointments
Contact: Peter K. Cutler
Mayor Byron W. Brown today announced the promotion of nine members of the Buffalo Fire Department, including the second woman in the city’s history to be promoted to Battalion Chief. Mayor Brown promoted the city’s first woman to Battalion Chief, Susan Brown, in February 2008.
The Lieutenants are being promoted from Firefighters, the Captain is being promoted from Lieutenant and the Battalion Chiefs are being promoted from Captain. It should be noted that Fire Commissioner Michael Lombardo, while serving as the city’s Fire Commissioner, had been on leave from his Civil Service title as a Captain in the Buffalo Fire Department.
“These individuals have provided dedicated and long-standing service to the residents of Buffalo as members of the Buffalo Fire Department,” said Mayor Brown. “I am very pleased today to promote them to their new positions within the Department.”
The Buffalo Fire Department (BFD), with 698 active firefighters, is a fully professional career force. The BFD is a full service department providing fire suppression, hazardous materials response, technical rescue, emergency medical response, as well as prevention and inspection services, and arson investigation.
