Training and Workshop Sessions Held November 5th

Mayor Byron Brown is sponsoring, through the Save Our Streets Task Force, free Landlord Training and Workshop Sessions on Friday, November 5, 2010 from 8:30am-4:30pm.

“This program is of vital importance for rental property owners in Buffalo,” said Mayor Brown.
“It is beneficial for landlords to receive appropriate training, for the management of their properties and their tenants. This program ensures the most efficient and safe rental process and home ownership.”

Rental property owners will have the opportunity to enroll in the Beginner Training session; which will focus on several areas including how to apply for repair loans or grants, inspection procedures, eviction proceedings, tenant screening and selection, fair housing laws, how to detect or prevent drug activity from occurring at rental properties, changes in the City of Buffalo Housing Court, as well as lead poisoning prevention.

The Advanced Workshops will also be offered that day. The prerequisite of the intensive workshops are to first attend the beginner training session. Attendees of the workshop may register for courses dealing with issues such as Building Codes, Maintenance & Permits, Evictions and Small Claims 101, Budgeting, Record Keeping, Diversity Training and Tenant Selection, Evictions, Drugs/Gangs 101, Healthy Homes and Lead Connections and Property Management.

Training Sessions will be held at the Belmont Shelter Housing Services located at 1195 Main at Dodge Street. Ample parking will be available. Additionally, breakfast, lunch and refreshments will be provided, free of charge to all that attend.

The deadline to register for the Mayor Byron Brown’s and Save Our Streets Landlord Training Workshop Series is October 27, 2010.
