Breast Cancer Awareness Day

Mayor Byron Brown joined city employees today in wearing pink in a show of support of breast cancer awareness month.  He also issued a proclamation declaring Wednesday, October 22, 2014 as “Breast Cancer Awareness Day” in the City of Buffalo.

“Wearing pink in October, is a unique way to show our friends, family and community that we are a part of the fight against breast cancer,” said Mayor Brown.  “I urge all Buffalo residents to talk with friends and loved ones about the importance of breast cancer screening and early detection, diagnosis and treatment.”

While considerable progress has been made in the fight against breast cancer, it remains the most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of death among women in the United States.  Today’s proclamation in Buffalo was part of an annual national campaign to increase awareness about breast cancer during the month of October and to reaffirm our commitment to support breast cancer research and to educate all citizens about its risk factors, detection and treatment.
