Mayor Brown Celebrates 2017 National Night Out Attending Neighborhood Gatherings Citywide

Buffalo, N.Y. – Mayor Byron W. Brown spent an evening visiting Buffalo neighborhoods to celebrate 2017 National Night Out.  The 34th annual nationwide celebration of neighborhood unity, which took place in more than 16,000 communities across America, is aimed at building neighborhood camaraderie, while reinforcing relationships between residents and local police and fire personnel.

“Once again our block clubs have enthusiastically embraced National Night Out with gatherings in every area of the City of Buffalo,” Mayor Brown said. “The National Night Out initiative helps promote education and create dialogue between residents and our first responders, while also providing our citizens with information on our key city services.”
During National Night Out, over 150 block clubs and organizations citywide hosted block parties, cookouts and other various community events.  Mayor Brown kicked-off Buffalo’s National Night Out at the Martha Mitchell Center, where he was joined by Buffalo Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda, Acting Fire Commissioners Johnathan Eaton and Vincent Muscarella, Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority Leadership, and representatives from the Police Athletic League.
