Mayor Brown Helps Promote "Make-a-Wish" Radio Thon in Buffalo

MAYOR BROWN HELPS PROMOTE
‘MAKE-A-WISH WESTERN NEW YORK RADIO-THON’ IN BUFFALO
He also pays tribute to Wish Champion, Larry Norton, who has been hosting the 97-Rock
Radio-Thon since its inception 22 years ago; this will be the veteran broadcaster’s final Make-A-Wish Radio-Thon

BUFFALO – Mayor Byron Brown today presented Larry Norton with a City of Buffalogift basket as a thank you for his hard work and dedication to countless children in Buffalo and Western New York. Norton has hosted the 97-Rock Radio-Thon for decades, raising nearly three-million dollars. Norton will continue his work - one final time - as he hosts his very last Radio-Thon on Thursday, September 22, 2016 beginning at 6 a.m. During the 28-hour event, Norton will speak with children who have received a wish, doctors who know how important the wish process is for the children, and plenty of folks who know first-hand, what a wish means, not only to the child – but to the community as well. All money raised stays right here in WNY, helping to bring joy and hope to children battling life-threatening illnesses.
“I applaud veteran broadcaster Larry Norton for his commitment to Make-A-Wish Western New York, enabling them to raise enough money to grant more than 2,500 wishes since 1992 to local children,” said Mayor Brown. “As a tribute to Larry Norton, I encourage citizens to support this year’s Radio-Thon so that together we can help provide every eligible local child with a heartfelt gift of a wish.”
Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. On average, nearly150 wishes are granted annually in WNY. This year, the Make-A-Wish Radio-Thon on 97Rock takes place Thursday, September 22nd – Friday, September 23rd. Larry Norton has been hosting the Radio-Thon since its inception 22 years ago. To date, the Radio-Thon has raised more than $2.8 million for local wishes.
