  • Richard Fontana was born on July 18, 1972 on Buffalo's West Side
  • Married to Dolores (Sullivan) Fontana, father of Christopher and Thomas Fontana
  • Graduated from Buffalo State College in 1994 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Business.
  • Former owner and operator of family restaurant
  • Elected to City Council in 1997
Lovejoy District News:

Councilmember Fontana undertook several projects, many of which have been accomplished and some remain in process nearing completion shortly:

  • Secured over $250,000 in housing rehabilitation grants.
  • Secured a $335,000 regionalism grant from Erie County for improvements to Genesee Street Corridor.
  • Negotiated the new Machnica Center deal with landowners and fought for the additional 1.3 million dollars to fill the budget gap.
  • Secured $1,000,000 for sidewalk repair and replacement district wide.
  • Introduced a new gateway Improvement Project.
  • Introduced numerous pieces of legislation pertaining to city wide and district issues.
  • Fought corruption and sought to return city dollars back to the district.
  • Secured funding to renovate our district parks including; Moreland Field, Hennepin Park, Houghton-Stachowski an Schiller Parks.
  • $600,000 for renovations to the Seneca-Babcock Community Center.
  • Secured funding to renovate Precinct Police #11 building.
  • Facilitated the demolition of blighted property and construction of new homes in the district.
