Description |
A
large granite stone sits in the middle of a plaza paved with granite
bricks engraved with the names of Irish descendents. The plaza is
encircled by 32 granite blocks representing the original counties in
Ireland. The inscription on the center stone is written in Gaelic and
reads: "If these were to keep silent the very stones would cry out,
Luke 19:40." The inscription surrounding the stone reads: "Our hearts
are with them in the earth, and they with us within our hearts. Now we
together, live forever. We are the harvest of the blight, let us not
fall our seed." The bronze plaques surrounding the site describe the
history of the memorial, its design, the Irish Famine, and the Irish
immigrant experience in Buffalo.
