Italian Heritage Festival will accommodate young patients and their families from Women’s and Children’s Hospital

Mayor Brown has given his sponsorship and support to the 2009 Sorrento Cheese Italian Heritage Festival’s Good Neighbor’s Fun Day. Beginning at 9am before the official opening of the Italian Heritage Festival, 60 participating families with chronically ill children and teens will exclusively enjoy the festival’s exciting attractions.

This Good Neighbor’s Fun Day is the first annual of what is hoped to be many years of continued partnership between the Italian Heritage Festival and Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Supporters of this event include elected officials and community sponsors including Mayor Brown.

“Large and crowded events such as the Italian Heritage Festival make it difficult for citizens in wheelchairs and others in need of special assistance to partake in  the festivities,” said Mayor Brown. “For this reason, I am proud to be a sponsor of the Good Neighbor’s Fun Day, which gives all citizens of Western New York the same opportunities to celebrate all that this event has to offer.”

The Women’s and Children’s Hospital of WNY established Stone’s Buddies to assist the families of children and teens who have been diagnosed with serious illnesses. The participants in Good Neighbor’s Fun Day are all members of Stone’s Buddies network of support.

The children and their families will be able to ride on the attractions donated by Fun For Everyone Shows Inc. and enjoy the food and refreshments provided by Louie’s Pizza, Daddio’s Pizzeria and Coca Cola of Buffalo, NY.
