MAYOR BROWN CALLS ON THE COMMUNITY TO HELP RAISE FUNDS FOR POP WARNER JR. PEE WEE TEAM’S TRIP TO TITLE GAMES

Mayor Brown donates $500 and leverages additional donations to meet the team’s $26,000 fundraising goal to cover travel and lodging costs

December 4, 2014 – Mayor Byron Brown and the WNY Bills of the Pop Warner Football League, 105lb, Junior Pee Wee Division are on a mission to bring home a national title and they need the community’s help to do it.  After winning the Mid-American Regional Championship in November, the team is now eligible to attend this year’s Pop Warner Super Bowl in Orlando, Florida.

"These young people work hard during the season, both in their athletic work and their academic work, and we want to help them in any way possible," said Mayor Brown at a City Hall news conference, standing with athletes and their coaches.  “I call on the generosity of our community to support these students – a warm example of our city coming together again.”

Mayor Brown kicked off the community-wide fundraising effort by making a $500 donation, matched by a donation from M&T Bank.  The team’s goal is to raise $26,000 to cover travel and lodging costs associated with the event which gets underway December 7-13th, 2014.

During the week of December 7th, the team will compete in the semi-finals with 7 other teams to determine what two teams will go on to compete in the Super Bowl for the National Championship.  $19,686 in funding is needed in order to get the athletes (ages 10 & 11) and coaches from Buffalo to Orlando, Florida for the 4 day semi-finals.

Should the team win the semi-finals, the new total increases by $7,000 – three additional days near the resort in preparation for the Championship game, held on December 13th.

Donations can be mailed/dropped off at the BFNC Moot Center, located at 292 High Street - Buffalo, NY 14204 or online at www.BFNC.org - under the youth services jr. Peewee donation tab.
