Northland Beltline Corridor Redevelopment Project

MAYOR BROWN TO ANNOUNCE FINAL KEY PROPERTY ACQUISITION FOR THE FUTURE NORTHLAND BELTLINE CORRIDOR REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT

June 10, 2015 - Mayor Byron Brown was joined today by Buffalo Common Council President Darius Pridgen, Majority Leader Demone Smith and the Buffalo Urban Development Corporation (BUDC) to discuss the recent purchase of 777 Northland, a significant step forward in the plan to
create an East Side business park as part of the Northland Corridor Redevelopment Project.

“We continue to do even more to ensure that opportunity is reaching all of our neighborhoods and today, as Chairman of BUDC, I’m pleased to announce that BUDC acquired the final key parcel on this site at 777 Northland,” said Mayor Brown.  “The Northland Business and Training Park is coming to Buffalo’s East Side and this will mean potentially hundreds of jobs and training opportunities.” 

Last year, supported by a Buffalo Billion grant from Governor Andrew Cuomo and Empire State Development, Mayor Brown encouraged BUDC staff to aggressively begin to assemble land in the Northland Corridor.  The first property to be acquired was the abandoned Houdaille Industries plant at 537 East Delavan. BUDC later closed on a number of properties which were part of the historic Niagara Machine and Tool Works facility.

The property at 777 Northland consists of five (5) acres of land and an 80,000 square foot building. In total, approximately 50 acres of land and over 700,000 square feet of buildings have been assembled over the last two years in the Northland Industrial Corridor to create an East Side Park focused on the manufacturing and energy sectors. BUDC is currently engaged in the appropriate environmental due diligence and SEQRA review planning for the properties.  BUDC has hired LiRo Engineers to spend 2015 formulating a redevelopment strategy for the Corridor.
